Phi Alpha Honor Society For Social Work

Formally admitted to Social Work Program as a full major .Acceptance letter and major declaration on file in SW office. The mission of Social Work in Action is to engage and empower natural helpers to participate in community outreach and social action within the CSU campus and the Fort Collins community. Please contact the Chapterto inquire about current funding opportunities for student researchers. Hours completed at an organization of your choice must be documented using the philanthropy form. Internship or employment activities will not count as approved philanthropy hours.

Forward to the Treasurer of the Executive Council a report certified by the faculty advisor covering the Chapter year not later than June 30 th. The report is to include the financial statement, and a list detailing the dates and meetings held during the year. Within the Department of Social Work, our officers and members are conducting a membership drive. Please return the completed application to the Social Work office. Initiation is generally the first chapter meeting of each semester and counts toward the meeting attendance requirement. Current Chi Delta members, MU faculty & staff, and members from other chapters are invited to attend.

Conferences – Social Work Students attend conferences, seminars, and local, state and national meetings. Student has achieved a minimum overall grade point average of 3.5 based on a 4.0 scale. Membership shall be available to all eligible persons without regard to age, gender, color, race, creed, ethnic or national origin, political or sexual orientation, or disability. The Bylaws may be amended by a majority vote of the Executive Committee and upon ratification by a three-fourths vote of the active membership. Special fees, assessments, fines, and penalties may be levied by the Executive Committee and with a three-fourths vote of the chapter membership present.

Submit documentation forms for attendance and hours completed by the deadline each semester. All members initiated into Phi Alpha, Chi Delta Chapter enjoy life-long membership in Phi Alpha Honor Society. Each member is invited to an initiation ceremony to take the membership pledge and receive their official membership certificate. As permitted by the National Office, the Chi Delta Chapter has established higher eligibility requirements than the minimum requirements of the National Phi Alpha Honor Society. Must have a GPA of 3.75 in completed 300 and 400 level social work courses.

Eligible students are invited to join the Chi Delta Chapter and participate in the Initiation Ceremony which is held at the beginning of each semester. Initiates take the pledge of membership, sign the membership book, and are presented with a certificate of lifetime membership, ribbon, and button from the National Office.

The membership fee is $15.00 and may be paid by check made payable to UAB Student Social Work Organization and returned with the completed application. The SSWO’s purpose is to stimulate interest in the field of social work within the University and community. We hold regular meetings, some of which feature guest speakers requested by our members. We also sponsor activities and community projects throughout the year and organize student trips to attend area social work conferences. Social Work ambassadors have the opportunity to become leaders among students in the School of Social Work. You will gain knowledge of school values and procedures, and assist current and incoming students in understanding and navigating the social work program.

Each Spring semester the faculty advisor and Phi Alpha executive officers distribute information regarding application to Phi Alpha. The WCU chapter of Phi Alpha sets its own standards for eligibility in accordance with the criteria of the national organization. The Ohio University Student Social Work Association is a student organization with the purpose to serve, educate, and promote activism in the field of social welfare and prepare students for the professional field of social work.
