What Is The Alpha Delta Mu Honor Society?
Any undergraduate or graduate social work student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks who meets the qualifications set forth in the By-Laws shall be eligible for active membership. National Phi Alpha membership dues include a onetime fee of $30 for each new chapter member. Scholarships are available, please inquire with faculty sponsor.
Pay continuing membership dues, every Fall and Spring semester until graduation. Distinguished members have earned national or international recognition for their contributions to social work education, research or practice. Additionally, post-secondary schools must offer degrees at baccalaureate or higher levels in social work and maintain program accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. Affiliation with CSWE demonstrates that curricular studies contain relevant, evidence-based instruction designed to encourage superior scholarship and professionalism in the field. This Constitution may be amended by a majority vote of the Executive Committee and upon ratification by a three-fourths vote of the active chapter membership.
As a member, you will have a chance to wear honor cords at graduation. Phi Alpha’s mission is to promote education and camaraderie among Social Work students and to maintain humanitarian goals and ideas. You filled out an application and paid the membership fee.
The Greek letters for the group are HHS, which stand for health and human services. This reflects the commitment of Eta Eta Sigma members to work to improve the health and well being of others through the direct provision of services. The organization appropriately has its leadership in the School of Social Work and the undergraduate advisor as the faculty mentor.
An organizational and membership meeting is held early each fall, at which time plans are made for events to take place during the academic year. The organization focuses on providing community service and providing professional and educational opportunities. As a national social work honor society, Phi Alpha seeks to provide a closer bond among social work students and to promote humanitarian goals and ideals. MSW student membership in GSSW’s Xi Delta Chapter of Phi Alpha is based upon grade point average and adherence to the code of ethics established by the National Association of Social Workers .
The MSU Denver chapter of Phi Alpha elects student officers each year. Officers may serve multiple year terms and move from the BSSW to MSW programs. Members vote for the BSW and MSW Phi Alpha officers every year. The New Social Worker Magazine has been published since 1994. Each issue provides practical articles on social work students, social work ethics, field placement, practice issues, practice specialties, technology in social work, book reviews, and more.
Complete and submit documentation on time, every Fall & Spring semester, of 4 hours of philanthropy/community services. Submit STARS report, on time, every Fall & Spring semester. STARS report serves as a member’s documentation of Phi Alpha’s minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.75. STARS report is accessible to students via myUSC portal under OASIS. To qualify for Alpha Delta Mu membership, colleges and universities must hold accreditation from regional and national organizations recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Chapter meetings shall be held a minimum of two times during the academic year.
Students meeting the eligibility criteria are notified by the current chapter President and are officially welcomed into Phi Alpha in an annual Induction Ceremony. Campus Projects – Social Work students engage in a variety of campus projects. Community Projects – Social Work students engage in a variety of community projects.
Furthermore, students seeking initial, active membership must demonstrate their leadership capabilities, high ethical standards of behavior, and desire to promote social work services. The Social Work Department has an active student organization named NASW-SO, or National Association of Social Workers, Student Organization. Students may join the organization as soon as they declare social work or pre-social work as their major. The officers plan many activities for students related to social work and have at least monthly meetings. Professor Beth Webb is the faculty advisor for the organization. Phi Alpha offers membership to social work students, faculty and practitioners.
