The conference allowed to me to meet research teachers from across the country, and exchanged our practices. The Society truly cares about education and is willing to put their money behind it to give great conferences for educators free of charge.

SSP believes that educating and inspiring the young scientists of tomorrow, whose vision will usher in new solutions to global challenges, is vital to our common future. Today, the Society is dedicated to providing concise, accurate, and inspirational science news and opportunities to our nearly 100,000 subscribing members, the 50,000 alumni of our competitions worldwide, and nearly 20 million unique online visitors and social media followers. Before Maya Ajmera founded The Global Fund for Children, she was destined for a career in science. Maya grew up in Greenville, North Carolina, the daughter of Indian immigrants, a physicist and a business entrepreneur. Maya’s interest in science began with her work in a botany lab exploring the growth of duckweeds when she was 13 years old.

They are providing workshops and training sessions for teachers, and grants to help school districts develop their science programs. I cannot say enough how valuable the Society for Science and the Public is for science education in this country. The remainder of this report details the findings on both public and scientists’ views about science, engineering and technology topics. Chapter 1 briefly outlines related Pew Research Center studies and reviews some of the key caveats and concerns in conducting research in this area. Chapter 2 looks at overall views about science and society, the image of the U.S. as a global leader, perceived contributions of science to society, and views about government funding for scientific research.

For example, 79% of adults say that science has had a positive effect on the quality of health care, down from 85% in 2009 while negative views have ticked up from 10% in 2009 to 18% today. At the same time, both the public and scientists are critical of the quality of science, technology, engineering, and math in grades K-12. Include in the financial statements a breakdown of expenses (e.g., salaries, travel, postage, etc.) that shows what portion of these expenses was allocated to program, fund raising, and administrative activities. If the charity has more than one major program category, the schedule should provide a breakdown for each category. I have met some amazing educators and made many professional connections, I will take their experience and knowledge to my classroom and clubs.

I had a great experience before the conference with hotel and plane reservations as well as getting back home. The venue was beautiful and it was easy to navigate to the sessions, meals, rooms and outside events. Over the past 24 years I have gone to many professional development conferences and many I regretted spending my time and energy attending.

For 20+ years, I’ve relied on the Society to guide me in helping my students develop original research projects. The advocate grant is making it possible for many of my students to participate in different competitions. The research conferences provide science teachers with resources that enrich and improve instruction.

Chapter 3 covers attitudes and beliefs about a range of biomedical and physical science topics. It focuses on comparisons between the public and AAAS scientists and also covers public attitudes on access to experimental drugs, bioengineering of artificial organs, genetic modifications and perceptions of scientific consensus. Chapter 4 examines the views of AAAS scientists about the scientific enterprise, issues and concerns facing the scientific community, and issues for those newly entering careers in science. It also includes the experiences and background characteristics of the AAAS scientists in the survey. Appendices provide a detailed report on the methodology used in each survey as well as the full question wording and frequency results for each question in this report. Founded in 1921, Society for Science & the Public’s mission is to advance public understanding and appreciation of scienceamong people of all ages through publications and educational programs.
